With the right lifestyle, experts say, chances are that you may live up to a decade longer. What’s the prescription for success? National Geographic Explorer Dan Buettner has traveled the globe to uncover the best strategies for longevity found in the Blue Zones: places in the world where higher percentages of people enjoy remarkably long, full lives. Buettner’s colossal research effort, funded in part by the National Institute on Aging, has taken him from Costa Rica to Italy to Japan and beyond. In the societies he visits, it’s no coincidence that the way people interact with each other, shed stress, nourish their bodies, and view their world yields more good years of life. By observing their lifestyles, Buettner’s teams have identified critical everyday choices that correspond with the cutting edge of longevity research—and distilled them into a few simple but powerful habits that anyone can embrace.

Dr. Beth Goulding will share these insights on foods and nutritional strategies for optimum health and preventative measures. Her presentation will be a springboard for a lively, general discussion of healthy living including good, do-able ideas to start right away, to enhance health….body, mind, spirit, fitness and posture. Included in the presentation will be healthy seasonal recipes for winter that anyone can make! Question and answer session to follow.

The program is free and open to the public. Please register for planning seating, handouts and refreshment.

The Library is located at 2 Library Lane, off Lyme Street in Old Lyme. Summer hours are Monday and Wednesday, 10am to 7pm; Tuesday and Thursday, 10am to 6pm; Friday, 10am to 5pm and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm. For more information or to register call 860-434-1684 or visit www.oldlyme.lioninc.org .

It tells the story of Mamah Borthwick and her illicit love affair with Frank Lloyd Wright amidst the public shame they experienced in early twentieth century America. This fictional account told from a new perspective, that of little known Mamah, is based on research conducted by first time novelist, Nancy Horan. It relates events in Mamah’s life as it became inextricably intertwined with that of Wright between the years of 1907 through 1914. By following the artistic aspirations and travels of the two main protagonists, the novel sheds light on the social mores of the times in the U.S. and Europe.

Nancy Horan is a writer and journalist whose work has appeared in numerous publications. Loving Frank is her first novel. She lived most ofher life in Oak Park, IL, until her recent move to an island in Puget Sound.
