Spring Programs

First Monday of the month- CrAfter School @ 3:30 – 4:30 PM

This program series will take place on the first Monday of every month from April-June (4/1, 5/6, 6/3). Join us in making a themed craft the first Monday afternoon of each month. Materials will be provided. CrAfter School is for children in grades three through five. Registration is not necessary, just drop in!

First Tuesday’s of the month- Lullaby Nights Program Series @ 6:15 – 7:00 PM

This program series will take place on the first Tuesday of every month from April-June (4/2,5/7,6/4). Join Eleanor Robinson to sing lullabies before tucking in for the evening. With our voices, her stringed instruments and quantities of percussive instruments for the families gathered, we will enjoy a melodic close to the day. Miss Eleanor has taught music and movement classes for over a decade in libraries, nursery schools, community centers and churches. She has performed in classic rock and blue grass bands.

Children in jammies welcomed. Favorite stuffed animals too!

This series is great for families ages birth to five. Registration is encouraged.

Calling all scientists! Participants will join us for hands-on science activities guaranteed to excite, inform, and educate. Children in grades 1 through 5 will learn about scientific properties by making slime, a lava lamp, and more! Materials will be provided and snacks will be served. Registration is required for material planning purposes.

Tuesday April 9, 2013 4:30-5:30pm Owls of Connecticut 

SNAPSHOT DAY SPECIAL EVENT!

Educators from the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic will present a special program for families called Owls of Connecticut.  Find out what owls call Connecticut home, learn more about their fascinating adaptations and the environment they live in. Meet a live owl and dissect a real owl pellet!

Friday April 19, 2013 2:00-4:00pm Vacation Week Drop in Make Your Own Birdseed Ornament for Earth Day

Just in Time for Earth Day! Drop in during school vacation week to make your own birdseed ornaments in fun shapes. Take them home and hang on a tree or bush outside to feed the birds.  This program is a great way to teach your child to give back to the earth. Children in grades kindergarten through grade 5 are welcome to attend. Materials will be provided. Snacks will be served. Persons with allergies are advised we will be using bird seed and coconut oil. Registration is not required. Materials will be provided.

May 10, 2013 3:30-5:30pm Decorate Your Own Flower Pot and Plant a Flower…for Mom!

Mother’s Day is here! Children grades kindergarten through grade 5 drop in to the Library to decorate a flower pot with yarn and ribbon and plant a flower for Mom! Materials will be provided. *Flowers are generously provided by the Duck River Garden Club, visit their flower sale this weekend at the Florence Griswold Museum and buy some flowers to spruce up your garden beds.*

Friday June 7, 2013 3:30-5:00 Make Your Own Marshmallow Launchers!

Grades 3-8 are welcome to attend this one, children and teens in separate areas for construction. Come to the Old Lyme Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library to build your own Mini Marshmallow Launcher. Materials will be provided. Using PVC pipe, elbows, tees and caps you will learn how to assemble a marshmallow launcher. Target and distance competition will take place after assembly is complete. Space is limited. Registration is required for materials planning purposes. Snacks will be served. We hope to see you there.
