Borrowing Periods and Fines

Most materials circulate for 3 weeks; new fiction circulates for 14 days; entertainment videos have a 7 day loan period and documentary videos a 14 day loan period; ECL videos have a 2 day loan period; equipment may be checked out for 7 days. All items have a 1 day grace period except videos, equipment, new fiction, interlibrary loans and museum passes.

Most overdue items are 10 cents per day; children's materials, 5 cents per day; videos are $1.00 per day.

Patrons are responsible for all materials borrowed on their card and any fines or fees accrued on it.

For your convenience and after hours, drop boxes for books and videos are located on the outside of the building to the left of the main entry.

Managing Your Books

The library offers several ways to help you keep track of the materials you check out:

1. Renew over the phone - Simply call us at 434-1684 during business hours. Our Circulation or Reference staff will be more than happy to check your due dates and/or renew your books.

2. Renew in person - Stop by the Circulation or Reference Desks for a quick check on your account.

3. Renew Online - Click on the "Search the Catalog" image at the top of the page. Once at our catalog, click on the button at the top of the page labeled "My Account." Then enter your last name and your barcode number, found on the back of your library card. From there, you can see your due dates and renew any books you wish.

4. Library Elf - Library ELF is an independent service that lets you customize library reminders. With Library ELF, you can:

  • Receive free due date reminders when you want them; for example, you could get a notice a week before an item is due, then every day again until it's due.
  • View due dates in a convenient calendar format.
  • Get notices as cell phone text messages or via e-mail.
  • Consolidate information for all of the library cards in your family.

To sign up, go to the Library ELF Web site and follow the instructions. From their home page, click Sign up and select LION from the list of ELF libraries. Click Sign Up next to the library name and enter your name, e-mail address, library card number, etc. as specified. A PIN number is not required.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Library ELF is not affiliated with the Old Lyme - Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library. Use of this service does not excuse participants from library fines if materials are returned late. Cardholders use ELF at their own option and risk. Users of Library ELF must submit personal information, including library card number to an independent company. Please read Library ELF's privacy policy and FAQs before deciding to sign up for the service.

Renewals

Materials may be renewed by telephone, through the catalog and in person, except for high demand fiction, reserved items and videos.
